Audio Converter Guide

The Audio Converter lets you change the format of any audio file directly in your browser using ffmpeg.wasm. Select one or more files, choose an output format and bitrate, then click Convert. Finished files download automatically. Nothing is sent to a server.

Supported Formats

You can convert from virtually any audio format: MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC, WebM, Opus, and more. Output options are MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, and FLAC. WAV and FLAC are lossless — they preserve full audio quality but produce larger files. MP3, M4A, and OGG are lossy — they discard some data to reduce file size, with higher bitrate meaning better quality.

Choosing a Bitrate

For MP3: 320 kbps is the highest quality and recommended for archiving. 192 kbps is a good balance for general listening. 128 kbps is suitable for voice or bandwidth-limited situations. For M4A (AAC): 256 kbps sounds nearly identical to lossless at a much smaller file size. For OGG (Vorbis): 192 kbps is a solid choice for music. OGG is an open-source format well-supported on Android and Linux.

Tips

WAV is best when you plan to do further editing or mastering — it avoids quality loss from re-encoding. Use MP3 or M4A for sharing on social media or streaming platforms. Batch conversion is supported: select multiple files at once and they will be processed in parallel up to your device's CPU capacity.
